Artist Review: The Mountain King – “Hitting Stellar Pipes”

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

A vast array of human emotions in musical form, The Mountain King brings their experimental realm to the surface with their powerful concept record “Hitting Stellar Pipes”.

It’s rare that you find a song/track of continuity that clocks in at 34:05, but once you step outside the box, you find an effectively dark and versatile composition that puts every emotion right into the forefront.

The music evolves as the track plays out, and is perhaps a dive into the conscious mind. It’s a tale of moods, melody, and a musical storyline that never wavers from its dark presence. With riffy and chugging distorted guitars and a punchy rhythm section, The Mountain King holds nothing back with coming at you from all angles of artistic expression. From glistening vocal melodies and heavily grungy elements, “Hitting Stellar Pipes” is a stellar exercise of human emotion in musical form.

The Mountain King is a very conceptual approach to many genre elements. The group of multifaceted musicians tell stories with their use of musicianship factors and instrumentation that makes their artistic merit stand out from anything else of their caliber.

If you wanna lay back, close your eyes, and experience music in a very direct way that hits human thoughts and emotions, “Hitting Stellar Pipes” hits home brilliantly.

Artist Review: Phil Specs: “One Last Kiss” Single

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

Strong, boastful, and compellingly anthemic, European Artist/Producer Phil Specs hits home with his powerfully dark single, “One Last Kiss”.

The baritone singer brings a solid narrative to the conceptual realm of loving and leaving with this song, and really tells the story effectively. With a 90s edge in production value, this brilliantly-crafted song is very crisp, ambient, subtle and climactic. His voice is definitely versatile, but it artistically brings his multifaceted persona right to the center stage.

One thing came to mind when I first started listening to this track: great songwriting. It has that simplicity that never lacks catchiness, and a production style that isn’t convoluted with diversionary post-production sequences to distract you from anything the artist may lack. You can easily hear Specs‘ gifted talent right from the start.

If I had to put this song alongside something or someone that shows resemblance to this same kind of anthem-like quality, I would have to say Natalie Merchant’s “Carnival” is exactly what comes to mind; which is an incredible feat for an indie artist in today’s world of overproduced music.

You really gotta hand it to Phil Specs for this track, he really conjured up quite the treat with “One Last Kiss”, and it’ll be ringing and singing in your head long after the song is over.

Album Review: Austin Colon – “The Path Ahead” LP

Article by: Justyn Brodsky

A lot of artists nowadays tend to put their music out impulsively or recklessly. Usually because of ulterior motives, lack of ambition, or just trying to make a quick buck.

But then there are true artists that enter the studio bound and determined to compose, create, and produce something that is captivating, intelligently crafted, and magically multifaceted. Austin Colon‘s LP The Path Ahead is one of those rare cases.

It’s true, this is a rare gem in this era of fame-hunger and impulsivity. A diamond in the rough, but shines brighter than anything you’ve seen or heard in a long time. The Path Ahead isn’t just an album you hear, it’s an album you feel.

With brilliantly produced tracks that offer up some very dynamic twists and turns, this acoustic-infused Alt/Rock record with a folky feel-good vibe has a vast array of different styles and versatile elements that’ll keep you hooked on every song. Austin‘s range is very fine-tuned and crisp with his vocal delivery, and makes very good use of both lyrical content and the melodies that bring him to the forefront.

Austin definitely had one priority straight — catchy choruses. Each track has a chorus that really uplifts the verses and keeps the flow of every track very effective. With very subtle and ambient piano tracks adding to the overall texture and progression of each song, Austin‘s musicianship factors are showcased very powerfully throughout this entire album, and really gets you to feel the vibe and aura that The Path Ahead brings to the atmosphere.

With a Bob Dylan-like influential vocal execution, we get a great glimpse into Austin‘s authenticity and natural-born talent that emulates from each track. Another key element about this album as a whole is transition; each song flows to the next in a way that reminds you of reading chapters from a book. It tells a story from many angles, hear a very distinctive narrative, but also get a taste of something different in every chapter. In a way, The Path Ahead is more than just an album, it’s a musical masterpiece of literature.

Just like Pearl Jam’s Ten, Incubus’s S.C.I.E.N.C.E., Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon, and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Californication, Austin Colon‘s The Path Ahead is an album where you never skip over one track, and you can always come back to it and fall in love with these songs all over again. They never get old, and never lose its impact.

If you just discovered The Path Ahead from this article, you’ll be very happy that you did. You can thank us later.

Artist Review: TIGER DRIVE – “Legend” Official Music Video

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

Some bands are just meant to be discovered. This is one of those cases.

With a modernization and stylization that delivers vibe, energy, and a multifaceted chemistry among three brilliant musicians, Rock-tronic power trio TIGER DRIVE hits it out of the park with a cinematic music video for their single “Legend”.

The title advertises this song perfectly. With subtle verses that build up to an electrically explosive chorus, this song does no wrong. We have a charismatic vocal range delivering up lyrical justice both in content and execution; there’s an aura among the trio that gets you to feel TIGER DRIVE‘s energy, authenticity, and visual perception.

The video brings forth a use of color that is something out of Hollywood’s standards. With action, drama, and suspense elements that parallel perfectly with the song’s captivating sequences, “Legend” takes us on a front row edge-of-your-seat cinematic ride.

The catchiness of this track is unwavering – each member feeds off the song’s anticipating structures and really kicks things into high gear when the chorus comes around. When watching the video, each member really shows their true artistic merit in its full package and brings you something that combines originality and familiarity with their dynamic sound.

This song is an all-or-nothing kind of single – where if TIGER DRIVE is gonna deliver music, they’re gonna do it holding nothing back. This song is it, their time is now. And this is definitely the song that will get you relentlessly hooked on this band.
