Artist Review: Sasha Prendes – “Brooklyn” Single

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

NYC’s Brooklyn Borough has a new anthem, and the city itself has a powerful voice representing it with Sasha Prendes‘ new smash single “Brooklyn.”

This artist fast-on-the-rise has the beauty, brains and talent, making her the perfect trifecta. But this especially shows in this new single with the rhythmic grooves, catchy chord progressions and authentically captivating vocals that have amassed Sasha a very promising industry buzz since this song dropped.

It’s reminiscent of other city anthems that we’ve all come to know (ie: Frank Sinatra, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys…) but with a whole new sound and atmosphere that puts NYC on its next level. And that is achieved by some key ingredients: incredible songwriting, production value, and brilliant vocal melodies. And Sasha brings all three to the table, plus so much more that any avid Pop listener can appreciate.

Sasha blends her own signature Pop sound with many other elements that include R&B and Dance, but in the end really delivers a level of versatility that is easily recognizable, yet still original in its own right. And that’s what gives her endless likability factors with a timeless style and presentation. She brings us something different that is captivating, multifaceted and is impossible to go unnoticed.

“Brooklyn” is already trending on all mainstream music retailers and has been extremely influential on social media since the song’s release date. It’s definitely a track that lets you know that Sasha Prendes is well on her way to reaching the top. And once you take a listen to “Brooklyn” yourself, you’ll understand exactly why.

Press Release: Airwaves Spectacular – “Out In The Distant Black” EP

Article by: Justyn Brodsky & Broken 8 Records

Back in 2017, we had the joy of hearing Airwaves Spectacular’s debut, self-titled record. It was an album that seemingly came out of nowhere, with the band having formed only a few months before its release. Packed with passion, enthusiasm, and will to create, the band had created a record of alt-pop and modern rock anthems that notched up comparisons to Muse, Evanescence, and the Human League, an impressive start to the young outfit.

A musical trio comprised of Cyrus Keefer, Kayla Rae, and Chris Tolentino, Airwaves Spectacular are now back with a brand new EP, bringing their 80’s influenced sound back into the spotlight with three original tracks and noticeable artistic growth. Titled ‘Out In The Distant Black’, the new EP is three neatly packaged tracks that carry on the spirit of their debut.

Led by opener “Standing Still”, a vibrant pop track that shines through glistening guitar work and an immutable energy, the new EP is clearly here to turn some heads. Second number and title track “Out In The Distant Black” is more atmospheric in nature, building from light tones and constant percussion that drive the song forward while letting the vocals shine in ethereal fashion.

Closing number “Rest Near Stone,” the lead single from the release and arguably the most infectious track, is the one to wait for. It’s an upbeat anthem that ties in the band’s love of pop and forward thinking nature, layering organic compositions with flicking digital flourishes to produce a sound that is quickly becoming their hallmark.

All told, the new EP is a real hidden treasure at the moment, and it’s a release that certainly belies the band’s short time together.

Artist Review: Shannie Ross – “Lesson” Single

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

Continuing to insatiably thrive in the market with her undisputed looks and talent, southern songstress Shannie Ross knocks it out of the park with her newest single “Lesson.”

Houston has a new queen, skip the princess part. From a dynamic image and versatile vocal approach, Shannie shows us she is worthy of the crown in this latest banger.

Amassing an enormous industry buzz with the success of her most recent EP Rebirth, her new R&B-infused track explores different multi-genre avenues with her articulate vocal style, but it’s her voice itself that really carries the torch throughout this song. She can be sensually sweet and cleverly charismatic all at once, and never fails to implement these factors into all the right places.

The pacing of the song is well-driven and doesn’t drag out, Shannie makes very good melody choices in each measure and really brings out different angles to what she’s capable of, and she’s well aware of how to maintain the proper vocal control. With a sing-songy Hip Hop style mixed with elements of Pop, she really delves into a whole new and next-level realm for the R&B genre and adds incredible balance and composure to make her recognizable and identifiable in any part of the market; be it indie or mainstream.

And that’s the thing I like the most about Shannie Ross – the multifaceted presentation. Being able to take on different roles of the same image and making her ear and eye candy for anyone that appreciates a more-than-solid R&B and Hip Hop-oriented track. Her music can be an outfit for just about anywhere in the market whether it’s the radio circuit, a movie soundtrack or any atmosphere in need of a modern, soulful voice.

For anyone interested in true southern heat, Shannie Ross really fires it up with this new single, and I’m more than positive you’ll agree once you take a listen. Be sure to check into this artists’s back catalogue as well, including her music videos. You won’t be disappointed.

Artist Review #2: The Keymakers – “Tell Me Something” Single

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

We are back with another banger from elite artist duo The Keymakers with their sensually ambient new single “Tell Me Something” and it doesn’t disappoint.

We’ve had this dynamic duo on the platform before. And I clearly remember wondering to myself what future material these guys would have up their sleeves. Well, I’m stoked to say that what they have is nothing short of amazing, and that was nothing short of my expectations.

Their new feature single “Tell Me Something” follows up their predecessor beautifully and takes us on a journey of innovative production value and lyrical bliss. With fine tuned, subtle verses and vocal leads that are melodically ambient, we get a grasp of new school R&B with Pop components that formulates a tasty mixture.

There’s a swell buildup in between verses and really gives you that edge-of-your-seat feeling as the vocals carry the torch. The likability factors are essentially endless and can be admired in isolation, but is a really great track as a whole when every measure of the song is put together. And that’s the best way to describe this song: a beautifully executed feel-good track from beginning to end, and just keeps getting better as the track plays out.

This one is highly recommended and is very innovative in its overall style and vibe. It offers up something new while still maintaining elements of familiarity from inspirational artists we’ve all come to know and love. And when you take a listen to “Tell Me Something” yourself, you’ll definitely be adding The Keymakers to that list of artists.

Artist Review: Luanne Hunt – “Backroads, Bottles & Blues”

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

If there’s one elite artist that has graced our platform with music that gets better every time, it’s Hall of Fame Country Star Luanne Hunt.

Every release of hers compliments the last, and over time you can’t help but see what an inspiring and thriving catalogue of Country hits she puts out. And she adds to it beautifully with her fresh new EP Backroads, Bottles & Blues, a refreshing and delightfully catchy collection of 7 tracks that will win your heart over, especially if you’re a fan of true country.

From uptempo riffs, piano solos and innovative vocal harmonies with the finest precision one could hear, Luanne‘s natural and angelic voice soothes your soul from start to finish throughout every track. Her opening track “The Rhythm” is the perfect entrance into Luanne‘s signature sound and really gets you to grasp onto her artistic merit and her God’s gift to creating soulful music with heartfelt lyrics. It’s also a great track for those who haven’t heard her yet, and will steal your heart away from the very first verse.

With mid-tempo classic country vibes on tracks like “Broken Branches” and “Old Tobacco Road“, we get to hear another side to Luanne‘s writing style and her versatility as a songwriter shines really bright by making use of great guitar tones and chord progressions. The simplicity of the rhythm section is another great part about Luanne‘s style that allows her to keep her voice at the forefront in all the right places, meanwhile giving every instrument the room to explore different fills, measures and tastefully written solos that make these songs incredibly crafty with top notch musicianship factors.

This EP also includes her hit single “Lightning In A Bottle” from earlier in the year, as well as a new magical country ballad “Love Led Us Here”, a beautifully crafted gem that gets the heart fluttering and the soul glowing. The highlight of every track will always be Luanne‘s voice, one that is irreplaceable and incomparable. But it’s also her classic production value that delivers an old school country flavor with elements of today’s modern sensibilities that makes her truly multifaceted.

She has a positive presence and an amazing story-telling narrative to every song on this EP, and her ability to capture the best melody for each one is what makes Backroads, Bottles & Blues a true country classic record that will be sitting on your shelf of favorites. If you already know Luanne, then you already know you’re in for a treat. If this is your first time discovering her, then you’ll be more than happy that you did. She never ceases to amaze.
