Artist Review: Frankie Prada – “Don’t Need ‘Em” Single

Review by: Justyn Brodsky & Bethany Stephenson

When it comes to a versatile exercise of production value with equal parts musicianship and lyrical charisma, then New York-based Frankie Prada‘s new single “Don’t Need ‘Em” is a song you definitely need to hear.

Starting off with an insatiably in-your-face chorus, we get a gratifying transition into sing-songy stylizations throughout the verse structure that puts Frankie‘s melodic approach in the forefront.

The beat is a very ominous one and enters the song as a subtle buildup, as opposed to the sirens and alarms that the Hip Hop genre tends to be obnoxious with at times. So the authenticity of the track really shines through and shows Frankie‘s artistic merit in a way where his songwriting structure is more of a priority, as opposed to convoluted production theatrics. It’s definitely a refreshing listen, and really showcases Frankie‘s true musicianship.

Later this month in August, Frankie is slated to shoot and release an official music video for “Don’t Need ‘Em” and so far has built up an impressive following and anticipation of the upcoming video and is also very evident.

But he’s just getting started. Frankie is gonna be following up “Don’t Need ‘Em” with two more singles and is also slated to release his upcoming album this fall of 2018. Despite his partial-hiatus since last year, he has come back to the game swinging this year and has no intention of slowing down in the least. He has many tricks up his sleeve for the remainder of 2018, and 2019 as well. So be sure to check out Frankie‘s single, and keep a close eye on him as he continues to climb the industry ladder and make his next moves.

Artist Review: Dead Harvest – “Stay Around” Single

    Review by: Justyn Brodsky

Sometimes you run into a band that brings a sense of something new and fresh, yet recognizable. After taking a listen to Dead Harvest‘s newest single “Stay Around”, it’s safe to say that this is one of those bands.

This quarter of collective musicians have set the groundwork to a very eclectic and authentic Rock sound that embodies elements from the 70s, the grungy 90s era, all the way to today’s mainstream indie sound. With crispy guitar riffs, a solidified rhythm section and melodically driven vocal structures, “Stay Around” is one of those diamonds in the rough that defines this band’s signature style.

When I hear this song, I think of The Clash and The Strokes having a love child. A sound that really focuses on the key songwriting factors doused with tasty guitar riffs and even a solo to give the song a coup de gras in case you were hoping for one.

Basically, Dead Harvest delivers a forest fire of Rock & Roll in one of its truest forms, accompanied by a sonic wave of tasty indie elements vacuum sealed into one tight package. This track is definitely going to be added to your indie rock favorites list in no time, and you’ll be staying around (no pun intended) to see what tricks these guys have up their sleeves next. “Stay Around” is currently available on several digital music retailers and streaming networks. We highly recommend you all give the song s listen:

  • Album Review: Terry McMahon Project – “A Shade Of Alec” LP

    Review by: Justyn Brodsky

We are more than stoked to bring our man Terry McMahon back to the platform to celebrate and look in-depth into his new Alt/Rock album A Shade Of Alec.

We were definitely blown away from his single “Believe”, so when he submitted his album to us, we already knew we were in for quite a treat.

With an amazing onslaught of high-quality production value coming from elite producer Doug White of Watchmen Studios (credits include Gym Class Heroes, Every Time I Die, and countless others), Terry McMahon‘s album has all the works from incredibly catchy choruses, eclectic song arrangements and a signature sound that is both original and familiar, A Shade Of Alec‘s likability factors are essentially around every corner throughout every track of this record.

With a signature sound reminiscent of Rock artists the world has come to know and love including Breaking Benjamin, Staind, and Soundgarden, Terry brings a powerful emphasis to his vocal abilities and really knows how to place melodies into every measure.

Opening track “Critically Broken” sets the tone perfectly and gives you an outstanding first impression of what these songs bring to the table as a whole. From subtle verses that buildup to a climactic chorus and a melody that soars on top of the chord progressions perfectly, this song is the perfect sonic-fueled Rock opener one could ask for of an album of this caliber.

Toning things down a bit, we have the anthemic percussion-driven track “Sentiment For The Lost”, arguably one of the most addictive songs on the record. If you’re looking for that Alt/Rock non-whiney dark ballad, then this track is gonna be one of your favorites. But the thing I love the most is both of these opening tracks really demonstrate the different angles that Terry McMahon brings to the forefront that showcases both his writing style and dynamic vocal abilities effectively. Every song on this album signifies something different, but you can tell it’s coming from the same artist.

But the best thing is, A Shade Of Alec reminds us of many things that still exist among the convoluted noise in today’s mainstream market. It reminds us that brilliant songwriting still exists, authentic production is still being utilized, and albums like this one keep the rare gems shining; even if they’re few and far between. Each song has something for every Rock fan on this record, and you don’t hear the same thing twice even though it’s the same artist. There’s no experimental trickery, overproduced theatrics, or any trivial distractions from the actual music. No gimmick needed, no ghostwriters necessary, Terry McMahon shows his authenticity front and center from start to finish on this LP.

We are very honored to be reviewing this album, and we know you’ll dig A Shade Of Alec just as much as we do. No matter what Rock era you designate yourself with.

  • Artist Review: Gkleft Ryda – “Welcome To My World” EP

    Review by: Justyn Brodsky

If there’s one rapper that is quick with his words and quick on his feet, it’s definitely Gkleft Ryda with his fresh new EP Welcome To My World.

This is a fun indie record with a signature sound and style all in its own caliber. That’s for sure. From authentic rhyming schemes and dynamic lyrical techniques, we definitely delve into Gkleft Ryda‘s world with four banging tracks this EP offers up.

“Clear My Mind” is a perfect opener. It’s a great introductory track and blasts you right into the overall feel and aura that GR delivers throughout the record. His vocal charisma shines bright with multifaceted multilayered vocals that are authentic and upbeat. The production value contains a happy medium and doesn’t overdose the listener on any theatrical elements. This record is definitely as real as it gets between the bouncy beats and the lyrical spits that share perfect parallels.

Then we have two more tracks that follow suit with a similar angle with “Pajamas” and “Way It Is”. Songs that really solidify GR‘s stylization and really show his integration as his lyrical flow continues to master itself through each verse and well-placed hook.

The party track is definitely “Baby Go Ham” though. This one drives with a narrative that shows us more of GR‘s personality and artistic merit. This is probably one of the most catchy on the record, and will stick like glue far after it’s over. While every track on this record glorifies in its own way, you definitely have to crown this track as one of the prominent highlights. It’s literally a sonic boom that doesn’t disappoint.

And that goes for the whole record; it doesn’t disappoint. At all. I was a little scared that the title of Welcome To My World might be underwhelming in its content. But don’t even begin to think it. This EP is an astonishing delivery of Gkleft Ryda‘s world. And you’ll feel more than welcome when you take a listen yourself.
