Artist Review: T Life – “Rougher & Rougher” Single/Official Music Video

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

If you’re in the mood for something funky, bluesy, with a shredding Gibson Les Paul and finger-snapping backup singers, then TLife’s politically supercharged anthem “Rougher & Rougher” is your new favorite song.

With a cinematic-worthy music video to accompany this track, “Rougher & Rougher” is an exercise of something contagiously catchy, yet real at the same time in both musicianship and content.

With lyrics reminiscent of real-life worldwide issues, T Life’s charismatic vocal range carries us through a narrative that touches on both originality and familiarity; along with visuals that take us through his powerful message as he sings it, making the video and audio equally effective and compelling.

TLife’s signature sound and stylization definitely puts his veteran musicianship angles right to the forefront. His vocal delivery has an impressive range and parallels perfectly with his image and genre. He brings the classic 70s funk era to the modern age without saturating it or plagiarizing it, he puts a whole new twist on a genre that has never been forgotten. If anything, TLife is continuing it in a whole new dynamic.

He is well acclaimed, has been around the world and back, and really showcases himself intensely with “Rougher & Rougher”. And when you hear this track for yourself, you’ll definitely see where we’re coming from. You’ll just fall head over heals with this song, and that’s a promise we can keep.

Artist Review: North Philly Hozman

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

North Philly and its surroundings has an amazing scene for Rap & Hip Hop. But North Philly Hozman is by far one of the crown holders with his in-your-face Trap Rap for fans of the genre looking for something that blows them away with the energy his style boast.

You can hear a very well-polished ambience in a lot of his track intros. “What You Know” displays a great example of this, leaving the listener on the edge of their seat wondering what’s to come when the verse kicks in. When listening to his rhythmic roll-of-the-tongue rhymes with the energy beautifully on the top layer, you will easily think to yourself that Hozman’s voice was designed for this genre; another musician born to do this.

With the ambience still in play in the intro of “Murder ’em”, you get another taste of that same brilliant energy while exploring more sides to Hoz. The production value is right where it needs to be, and the beat that makes this track most interesting is the fact that the plugins and post-production tricks don’t take your focus off the clever lyricism and powerful persona in Hozman’s voice. This kind of production is rare nowadays, and is a dream come true when you get to actually hear a stroke of genius like this.

Hozman has a great catalogue; including features from some very talented female rappers, and other top-of-the-line talent from his scene. He also has made appearances in film, and also has an album currently out titled Streets of the Future, Produced by Kareem Rebel (the man behind CRS with Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and Pharrell Williams) and features singer J-Smoove. It’s a 7-track EP that doesn’t disappoint in the least. Hoz has also been featured on many Coast 2 Coast Mixtapes and continues to hold his name in the game as a force to be reckoned with. North Philly has some major competition with Hozman roaming the streets.
