Artist Review: NoE – “Outlet” Official Music Video

A knack for the cinematic and a master of flow, we get an ideal track and modern-stylized music video from NoE‘s most recent banger “Outlet”.

Right from the start, the video is definitely giving you the action, drama, and suspense. The song gives off that intro that something’s about to go down. And most impressively, you don’t need a 20,000$ set design to make something effective on camera. So I have to give major props to the video’s production value for giving us that edge-of-your-seat feeling.

“Outlet” is another crucial example of today’s line that is drawn between indie and mainstream markets. While the song has a commercially acceptable quality to it, the presentation still feels (and looks) natural and something that isn’t forced. It has a natural flow to the performance value behind the camera and inside the vocal booth.

The video gives us an Aronofski, Tarantino, and perhaps modern day Kubrick feel. Something where the editing gives us the most impact. Where sometimes it’s not what you shoot, it’s how you shoot it. And that’s one of the major centerpieces to both this song and video as it parallels each other perfectly.

NoE‘s mid-ranged vocal tones give off the perfect approach for this track and make it most effective. It’s definitely a banger for the Sony Xplodes and a spin track for your club hotspot. Either way you look at it, this song rides the express line in between commercial success, but still thriving at being a hard working indie artist ready to take the bull by the horns himself and make a career with his music without selling his soul to the industry. And no matter where you see this song going, you’re gonna love it no matter what. And that’s what truly matters.

Artist Review: Julia Rose – “Touch My Body” Official Music Video

Think of Katy Perry and Alanis Morissette cross breeding, and you get the charismatic and catchy touch of  Julia Rose.

Her single “Touch My Body”  (accompanied by a very dynamic and colorful Music Video) is not only something recognizably lovable with the genre it fits in, but has the perfect balance between 90s classic Pop sound and today’s sensibility wrapped up into one tasty package. 

She really sustains an amazing aura, not just with her movements and ability of being in front of the camera, but in her vocal approach as well. Her range is perfect for a song like this and it even offers up a bridge and breakdown with a middle-eastern influence as well. It’s almost like Pop Culture shock, but that’s perhaps one of the most lovable parts about the production value and song altogether.

Julia Rose plays a very colorful and sensual role in this video, but also shows a very merciless side to herself with her knack for keeping things rough and moving forward effectively as the song plays on. The concept, though a simple one, is beautifully executed, and gives you that Aronofski feeling after watching the video. 

The back drops are kept simple, but I am more than certain that it was intended completely. The characters in this video also grasp onto a type of lighting that makes everything cinematic, effective, and unique with the talent in the cutting room. The editing is on-point and parallels with the song extremely well. Which is another captivating and defining factor to the entire vibe being placed right in front of you.

Overall, in my opinion, there’s no way you could dislike this song or video. It has that modern edge-of-your-seat feel while a perfectly mid-ranged Julia Rose encompasses you with her commercial-worthy vocal melodies and brilliant vocal tones that perfectly match her sensibility of combining beauty, edge, sexuality and sensuality. This is strictly candy for the eyes and ears.

Artist Review: S-EM-C – “On The Go” Single

I always tip my hat to females that can rhyme. This is another one of those moments in whole.

With drive, charisma, untouchable production value and a made-for-industry approach, there’s no question that female Rapper on the rise S-EM-C‘s “On The Go” is ready to go straight to the top.

She’s a trifecta of her own; from looks, brains and personality. She doesn’t need to try to pull a Trina, Kim, or Nicki anytime soon. The best is a fresh banger and has a universal authenticity when it comes to where this song is most appropriate. You can use this song to test out your new Sony Xplodes,  spin this at your club hotspot, or just simply put your headphones in (preferably: Skull Candy if you own a pair) and indulge in one of those songs that stays with you even after the track is over.

“On The Go” has a great classic multilayered chorus that brings power to the song’s overall execution. And the verses have a flow that keeps you fascinated enough to bring the chorus back to the structure each time she brings out her witty and clever lyrical approach.

And that’s what this song is about to me — flow and fascination. Defining factors of what can keep a song on its feet, or flop from its starting point. But this song emphasizes so much more than just being on your feet, this one has you cruisin’, and giving you another brilliant taste of what females can bring out when holding the mic.

So make no mistake, this a cooker that brings the heat, and the fascination that keeps you on your feet. Either way, “On The Go” is quite the treat.

Artist Review: Uyoka – “Jupitersong” EP

Enchanting, ambient, and strikingly cinematic with moods that can have you walking through the city streets, and feeling the vibe and aura coming at you from every direction.

There’s a lot of different ways to describe this dynamic and beautifully-crafted record. Uyoka‘s Jupitersong displays artistic merit, and production value that fits the EP’s ingredients perfectly. This has very powerful moods and innovative musical spectrums that bring out different angles of genres we know and love today. With Jupitersong, I hear an R&B and Alternative crossover with very subtle vocal textures that showcase beautifully written melodies and lyricism that parallels it beautifully. With her deep vocal tones and great use of layering her backups, I can hear musical influences ranging from Natalie Merchant, Tracy Chapman, to Alanis Morisette and Bjork.

Her opening track “Aquaheart”, we have pure emotion and an introduction to the Soul side of the record. With a chord progression that can easily play at your heart strings, it’s hard not to fall head over heels for this song. Uyoka‘s vocal textures drive this track forward and definitely keep you fascinated.

With “Love Song”, we get a very good-vibes-only stride with the straight-forward rhythm section and soundtrack-worthy vocal melodies. This one displays more of a verse-to-chorus buildup that gives this song character and wit in all the right places. A very interesting and dynamic changeup to this song’s predecessor.

“Diamonds, Silver, and Gold” is definitely the radio hit and most-likely most-notable track. It has that chorus that sticks with you long after the song is over and keeps the song structure simple and memorable. It’s a fantastic execution of something that could be called contemporary, but with likability factors that prevent this song from being generic. It’s a feel-good experience. Her song “Firestarter” sort of follows up from what’s already been structured as well, and maintains the feel-good vibe we’ve come to hear so far on this EP.

“Daydreamer” and “The Star” are great closing tracks, with a charismatic back-to-back sensibility that works for both songs like an anthem that could attach itself easily to the other. They are songs that conclude something that reminds you of a sound, vibe, and texture you haven’t heard quite yet. And by the time you finish this EP, you’re gonna add this to your list of favorites, and pass it along to your friends.

Uyoka‘s thoughts and inspirations behind the EP: “This album explores my introspective thought process, and I hope it gives listeners a chance for them to stop and think, even if it’s just for a little while. It’s so important to take that time and really get in touch with yourself. And who knows – you might also discover something new.”

Artist Review #2: Roman – “Dirty Bird” Single/Official Music Video

We’d like to welcome back our NYC brother and Alt/Rock Singer/Songwriter, Roman, for round 2 on the Artist Reach platform with his new infectiously catchy single, “Dirty Bird”, properly accompanied by a fun, witty, and entertaining Music Video. So in case any of you have been waiting for the Roman Empire to strike again, then your wait is over.
With this track, we have the formula that Roman is known for, however just like with every artist that evolves artistically as their careers manifest, we get some new surprises, twists, turns, and the same likability factors that always end up on overdrive.

With “Dirty Bird”, not only is the song very eclectic and well structured, but Roman‘s mid-ranged and charismatic vocals that carry a humble demeanor really continue to showcase in more impressive and memorable ways, solidifying his signature sound that sets him apart from your run-of-the-mill artists that sometimes tend to struggle to find themselves due to the oversaturation of cookie-cutting post-production antics. Luckily, we do not have this downfall with Roman at all; he is not only keeping his spark of the genre alive and well, but making it better than ever.

And with all this in place, we have a very interesting dynamic in the Music Video, where no matter what you’re doing; from taking a bath to chopping vegetables to cook dinner, you can always make room for dancing. This is a humble and good-hearted video that parallels a very authentic musician that doesn’t need an arena or humongous night club to emphasize a simple thing like getting down to a good song. 

There aren’t any antics that try to put Roman in an overwhelming setting with Lamborghinis, Bling Bling, or materialistic set designs that attempt to distract you from the song by shoving an artist’s ego down your throat. It’s a video that is natural, appealing, and very effective regardless of how simple or elaborate the production design is. Real talent will absolutely do the trick no matter what content or budget you have for a Music Video, so for Roman, this song definitely shines through no matter what his budget or production costs were used. It’s another direct piece of evidence that true talent goes above all, especially musical gimmicks or materialism.

Overall, Roman is an artist that never disappoints. He has a humble sensibility, down-to-earth characteristics, and an authentic signature sound and image that is very defined and memorable. “Dirty Bird” is definitely a must-hear for the ears, and a treat for the YouTube screen. We highly recommend you check out both, the song and video. You will be glad you did.

Artist Review: Leafy Satori Risk

A grungy and nostalgic treat, and an ambience that guides you to lean back, and put these songs on repeat might do justice as a way to properly describe what listening to this duo feels like. Another brilliant audio-imagery crossover, Leafy Satori Risk‘s most recent EP L’amour Fou, brings you on an eclectic journey. 

With great use of keyboards, grungy guitar swells, and vocals that bring you a dreamlike-sequence, this is definitely new food for the ear. Each song has its own dynamic, and story that’s told to help you delve into the minds of the creators, but has an arrangement and signature persona that defines them uniquely. “Pirates” and “Astronauts” are two of the four songs off the L’amour Fou record, and demonstrate a swell brilliance and unique balance in every measure between the song structure, and ambient heavily-accented vocal melodies; which works beautifully for their craft and adds a very nostalgic feeling when listening to these songs.

This dynamic duo currently hails from Los Angeles and recently toured Japan extensively. They are currently gearing up for a Brazilian tour in support of L’amour Fou and will continue to showcase their craft in other parts of the world as well. Leafy Satori Risk is definitely a great discovery of emotions; and I have no doubt you’ll feel the same way when you take a listen. It’s a great feeling, and listen altogether.

Artist Review: Jean Synodinos

Fun, Folky, and cleverly seductive. Jean Synodinos’ album Love & Blood, lives up to its name and does complete justice to the title.

Right from the beginning, her track “End of the World” gives you some very classy, witty, and charismatic tone that takes you for an audio and visual ride. I picture a nostalgic, edgy presence of walking into one of Sin City’s gentleman’s lounges, on a mission for mischief. It’s a cinematic feel. Making great use of traditional minor chords and percussion textures, Jean‘s soulful and center-stage vocals is definitely one of the key elements to her overall defining factors. Her lyrics are clever, genuine, and captures you with its narratives. This is possibly one of the best opening tracks on any album I’ve heard this year, and a great opening track is what captivates you into listening to the entire album.

Love & Blood offers up a little bit of everything appropriate for its title. “This Morning” and “Picture” are very beautifully crafted songs with a great showcase of musicianship. The production value is exactly where it needs to be and never tries to overdose you on any one single element. Jean‘s clean, very well polished vocals never lose the soulful feeling, and the rest of the band helps bring out the best of her, while complimenting each other’s roles in these songs as well. 

Another one that jumped out at me was “Mercy, Mercy”, another amazing cinematic and seductive feeling that adds to the overall album’s staying power. A western collective that tells a story through audio and visual nostalgia; which I think best describes this album’s overall aura. You never hear the same thing twice, and Jean‘s voice guides you through her journey with very dynamic melody structures, and signature soulfulness that never lets you down. 

I can easily see Love & Blood fit in with the next Hollywood Western film-score or soundtrack placement. It has all the right elements and musicianship necessary with a signature solidification that keeps you wanting to hear more of Jean Synodinos. So we have Love & Blood, the album. So when do we get to see Love & Blood, the movie? Take a listen and visualize it yourself. You won’t be disappointed.
