Artist Review: The Blankz – “(It’s A) Breakdown” Single

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

Thrusting back to the good old days when the Vans Warped Tour actually booked real punk rock bands, The Blankz prove with their new single “(It’s A Breakdown)” that punk is not dead, and never was in the first place.

If NOFX and Pennywise had a baby, The Blankz would be a definite DNA match. But even with influences like that, this band’s driven and powerful punk rock approach hones a craft that is in their own right and really gives punk fans a breath of fresh air; as well as a reminder that one of the best genres of music is still alive and kicking even more than before.

With a catchy synth part that perfectly parallels the melodic verses, the crunchy guitar chugs and tight rhythm section really kicks this track into overdrive and leads a hook that’ll stick like glue in your head even after the song is over. It has great power chord progressions with exceptional vocal melody arrangements that punk rock is known for, and really gives a nod to the 90s to early 2000s era of bands from Epitaph and Fat Wreck Chords in particular.

Another notable quality about this single is the band’s authenticity – where excellent songwriting is high on the priority list and doesn’t require post-production noise or smoke screens to keep the listener distracted from a mediocre song. There are no one-trick-pony methods or theatrics at all, just an in-your-face punk song with that edge-of-your-dear feeling that is rare in today’s era of music.

For any fan of true punk rock, “(It’s A) Breakdown” is an absolute must-listen in every way. It’s that sound you’ve been yearning for, a reminder that true punk rock exists, and that its legacy will continue no matter what garbage is being shoved down everyone’s throats on mainstream radio. If punk is your thing, then The Blankz will become one of your new instant-favorites. You’ll be glad you discovered them.

The single is currently available on all digital music retailers and streaming platforms. Be sure to pick up a copy and experience “(It’s A) Breakdown” for yourself!

I am always all about a dangerously catchy song with a feel-good vibe. And Tulga gives us exactly that with this single. His well ranged voice is showcased beautifully and conveys lyrical content that tells a very powerful story that grasps at your heartstrings.

But it’s so much more than that. Once the verse starts you can’t help but feel captivated. The uplifting guitar progression sets the perfect tone and opportunity for Tulga to really bring forth a vocal approach that can make this song into an anthem, and turns out – he exceeds the expectations. The vocals are heartfelt, emotional and really expresses his musicianship factors in glistening ways with his subtle vocal tones and mainstream-worthy gift of vocal projection.

Once that chorus hits, it hits home right where the heart is. With beautifully placed upper 3rd harmonies emphasizing every vocal detail, Tulga sings a chorus that couldn’t have been written better, and truly brings this song to life where it can reach your soul and stay with you. A true heartwarming feeling emulates from this chorus and highlights the brilliant songwriting that has gone into it.

And also, who can resist a 2-part harmonized guitar lead. This soft and well placed solo brings even more depth to the song and just makes you feel even warmer as its duration plays out. It’s a genuine surprise and really brings forth an eclectic aura that ties the whole song together. And the production value is right where it needs to be with the perfect mix of all the leads being right out in the forefront to articulate its purpose in the song. It just feels right, and you’ll definitely agree when you take a listen for yourself.

It’s rare a song this good from the Alt/Rock genre comes to the platform. If you’re waiting around for the next artist to bring you a genuinely great song with brilliant songwriting, then stop waiting. Tulga‘s “Dancing In The Streets” will be everything you’re looking for plus so much more.

With 90s-style production value showcasing this song’s grungy rock signature sound with an upbeat flavor, “Simply Livin'” and its unwavering catchiness has that staying power – where the song stays with you even far after it’s over. Artist Review: Goodieboyz – “Rise With Me” Single/Music Video

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

The folks at Goodieboyz have quite a concept. What started as a virtual band eventually manifested into a full-blown indie platform that showcases talent from the creators/originators, as well as feature artists from all over the world that wanna get involved. From musicianship, production, film making and everything under the sun, Goodieboyz have had the opportunity to put together some powerful content with a strong message. Their music video and single “Rise With Me” is one of those musical and visual demonstrations their platform is known for.

This politically supercharged track is heavily anthemic, atmospheric, and touches on concepts that are far too real. The video’s documentary style resonates with the flow of the Hip Hop verses and really parallels the lyrical concepts. Inspired by the band Gorillaz in their beginnings, Goodieboyz touches on a multifaceted multi-genre sound that has elements of rock, soul, rap and many iconic music eras all wrapped up into a modernized track with top-notch production value.

The best part about this song is the realism and outlook – the issues our country suffers from and the encouragement to find a way to make changes for the better by rising up as a whole. It’s a message we have heard in songs before, but never quite like this. The powerful guitar progressions and driving rhythms really helps propel this message forward, all the while providing a visual context behind the message in the video that really grabs at your attention and makes you think about the world we live in today, and how we can change it for the better.

“Rise With Me” is just as powerful in visual content as it is musically, and that’s what makes this single the gem it really is. You’ll be passing this video around to everyone you know after watching it – and you’ll definitely be keeping tabs on what Goodieboyz has up their sleeves in the near future.

Artist Review: Zama Rripa – “American Soul” LP

Review by: Justyn Brodsky

With great spirit, good nature, and a whole hearted eclectic sound driving his passion for music forward, Zama Rripa proves with his newest album American Soul that his message is just as powerful as his music.

Zama, emerging from the elite Miami music scene, has been garnering an insatiable street buzz with his indie-folk-americana rock style and free spirited lyrics that are uplifting and warm; yet take a stand at the same time in a positive and protesting way. He has performed all over the world in various bands as well as a solo artist, and his solo effort in American Soul really touches on his experiences, views and adventures into finding one’s journey and purpose.

Each anchor single off this album is very anthemic and has a very vibrant and almost tropical feel at times. With some reggae influences in the mix with a modern folk and americana signature, each track is very eclectic in its structure and timeless in its message.

With smooth acoustic textures and clean guitar layers that blend in with a very rhythmic flow, Zama‘s songwriting structures are very fresh, bold and deliver an authentic feel that is genuine and heartfelt. You can feel the passion that has been put into these tracks, and it really authenticates Zama‘s artistic merit every time each song plays out. There’s no specific formula – he writes and plays what he loves, and that’s what makes a songwriter truly influential.

If there’s one thing I can say about American Soul, it’s that Zama aims to inspire to be inspired. And to truly take in his music for what it really is – inspiring. He’s one of those artists that truly wants to make the world a better place through his music. And American Soul encompasses that with every track.

American Soul officially releases on October 26th and will be available on all digital music retailers and streaming platforms.
